The Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara hopes that his recent form will lead to a new contract at Ibrox, but he does not know if talks have taken place amid links to Leeds United, Everton and Southampton this week.

Teamtalk claimed that the Rangers manager Steven Gerrard fears Kamara could be sold in January, with Leeds, Everton and Southampton among the latest clubs to have had him watched.

Gerrard is therefore said to be desperate to tie down the Finland international, who still has two-and-a-half years to run on his existing deal.

Asked if that is something in which he would be interested, Kamara told the official Rangers Youtube channel on Friday: “Yeah, listen, I’ve just got to focus on my game and keep trying to do well for the team and hopefully that comes with it.”

On whether he feels he has earned a renewal, the 25-year-old added: “That’s a tricky question. I feel good. I feel confident. I feel like I’m playing decent and long may it continue. Hopefully, I can just carry on doing well and helping the team out.”

But Kamara insisted he has “no idea” whether contact has been made between Rangers and his representatives.

He concluded: “That is something I have no idea. I wouldn’t say anything’s happened like that. So I’m just focused on my football and I’m happy to play for Rangers Football Club.”

Unlike both Everton and Southampton, who brought in Allan and Ibrahima Diallo, respectively, in Kamara’s position this summer, Leeds failed to add to their options in central midfield.

And that decision threatens to be exposed in the coming weeks, with Kalvin Phillips out injured.

It remains to be seen how much Rangers would ask for Kamara, although it is likely to far exceed their initial outlay.

Rangers fans – just how good is the reported Leeds, Everton and Southampton target?
