Leeds United could sign FC Koln defender Timo Hubers for less than £6m if the German side’s financial problems do not improve by the summer transfer window.
According to Bild, Koln could be forced to sell their 25-year-old unit if their situation off the pitch does not resolve itself, with the 8th-place Bundesliga side still feeling the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
With stadiums in the North Rhine-Westphalia state of Germany now allowed to host supporters at full capacity, Koln could make up for lost ground in the final weeks for the German top-flight season.
However, the club will likely have to sell some of their top players if they are to financially support themselves in the summer, which is why Leeds could sign Hubers at a bargain price in the transfer window.
As reported by the Daily Mail, Koln would be open to selling Hubers for just £6m this summer, with Southampton and West Ham also chasing the defender, who Bild labelled as a ‘powerhouse’ of a centre-back.
Indeed, Leeds have one of the worst defensive records in the Premier League this season after a year that has seen important members of the squad who play at the back in the midfield struck down by injury. And the signing of Hubers could ease the pressure on Jesse Marsch to rush players back.
Hubers could be a sensational addition for Leeds this summer

At 25, Hubers is entering the prime years of his career after an impressive season with Koln, and with the club needing to sell and Leeds just one of many clubs interested in the defender, the German could be a sensational addition for the Whites this summer.
After all, Leeds have defended poorly this season and need improvements in the area, and with Huber, Marsch will have a solid new arrival who can help patch up the backline at a bargain cost that will allow the American to also spend in other positions in the squad.
