Leeds United are reportedly set to try with another bid for Ryan Kent.

The Whites have been heavily linked with a move for the 23-year-old in recent days and, according to The Scottish Sun, they’re going back with a £14 million bid.

Rangers rejected the first offer on Friday – reported to be around £10 million – but Leeds seem determined to get their man.

Question is, is he the right man?

If this £14 million offer is accepted and Kent moves to Elland Road, he would be United’s fourth-most expensive signing of all time.

But the statistics don’t indicate that he’s guaranteed to be a big hit in the Premier League.

In two years with Rangers, the former Liverpool winger has managed to score 17 times and bag 13 assists across 83 games in all competitions.

The vast majority of these appearances came in the Scottish Premiership and it simply has to be noted that it’s a much weaker division than the Premier League, with Leeds back in the top flight now.

Celtic loanee Mo Elyounoussi is, like Kent, a left-sided winger, and the Norwegian attacker scored seven goals and set up six from 20 games in all competitions last term, having failed to score or assist a single goal in 16 Premier League outings for Southampton the previous season.

That isn’t to say that Kent won’t fare much better in the big time, but the fact that they’re comparable in Scotland should give Leeds pause for thought.

Marcelo Bielsa definitely needs stronger attacking players, but is Kent – who earns £25,000 per week in Glasgow, and would reportedly earn £50,000 per week in Yorkshire – productive enough in Scotland to suggest he’s worth £14 million in the Premier League? Arguably not.
