Leeds targeted both Aston Villa’s Tommy Elphick and Aden Flint of Bristol City, but now Sunderland and Birmingham are closing in.
It has certainly been a busy summer of incoming transfers for Leeds United, with no fewer than nine new signings at Elland Road so far this window.
However, despite securing Pontus Jansson a permanent deal from Torino and Matthew Pennington on loan from Everton, central defence still remains a problem area for the Whites.

Those two new additions and Liam Cooper are their only options in the position currently and as a result, they have been linked with two Championship centre-backs in recent times.
Yet it now seems that both could bypass the Yorkshire club, with fresh reports from the Bristol Post claiming that Birmingham City have turned their attention to Bristol City’s Aden Flint.
This may have come about because the Mirror reported that Sunderland are now the favourites to sign Tommy Elphick from Aston Villa – another defender who was interesting Birmingham and Leeds.
With the new season a little over a week away, losing out on not one, but two defensive targets will be a big blow for new head coach Thomas Christiansen.
