Whisper it, but Leeds United could be helped out on the transfer front by Manchester United.
Obviously the Red Devils would never voluntarily help the old enemy when it comes to signing players, but the cards could fall like that for the Elland Road outfit nonetheless.
Arsenal, Manchester United and Leeds are among the most commonly-linked clubs to PSV Eindhoven attacker Cody Gakpo, who carries a £40 million price-tag [The Daily Mail].
However, events of the past 24 hours suggest that maybe, just maybe, the path is clearing for the West Yorkshire side to make him theirs.
That’s because Dharmesh Sheth of Sky Sports News revealed this evening that the Old Trafford club are focusing on signing Antony from Ajax following a u-turn on Gakpo.
And with Arsenal going after Pedro Neto of Wolves, that potentially means neither of those Premier League giants will be pursuing the Dutchman.
All three are wide players and if the Gunners and United are out of the equation then that, in theory, could allow Leeds to step up their interest in 23-year-old.

Obviously this isn’t an exact science, but Jesse Marsch’s outfit could well be signing a winger between now and September.
That’s because Daniel James is now being linked with a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur and with him being another winger, Marsch will need a replacement.
Leeds are obviously an enormous football club, but you wouldn’t have fancied their chances of pipping either of their domestic rivals to the addition of Gakpo, who revealed earlier this summer that the Yorkshire giants have made contact.
But with both Arsenal and the Red Devils focusing on alternative players, it might just help the Whites get their man.
In theory.
