Steven Gerrard potentially leaving Rangers to join Aston Villa is the talk of the town right now – and it could potentially benefit Leeds United.
Gerrard, who has been at Ibrox for three years, looks set to replace Dean Smith at Aston Villa this week [talkSPORT].
And if the 41-year-old jumps ship at Rangers, it might be an ideal time for Leeds to go back in for a certain Ryan Kent.
The Elland Road club had two bids rejected during the summer of 2020 [Scottish Sun] and given that they were linked again during the most recent transfer window, you could say this is a player who Marcelo Bielsa likes a lot.
Yes, Leeds wound up signing Dan James instead but, if we’re honest, the Wales international isn’t doing the business and someone like Kent – a £7 million signing by the Gers in 2019 – is still needed.
Kent, who is from Oldham, is not a Rangers man. He began his career at Liverpool and followed Gerrard to Glasgow.
If Gerrard does leave, it’s very possible that a number of other players signed by the Englishman will also be less enthusiastic about the project at Ibrox.
Needed
Leeds have won two of their 11 Premier League games this season.
Bielsa absolutely needs additional attacking support if the Whites – who three points above the drop zone – are going to stay up.
And Gerrard leaving Scotland for Aston Villa may well give United the impetus to roll the dice with Kent one last time.
