Nohan Kenneh is out of contract this summer and Leeds United are weighing up whether or not to keep hold of their Premier League 2 starlet, as reported by The Athletic.

Given the make-up of Leeds’ tight-knit squad, the relegation-threatened Whites are only ever an injury or two away from giving youth a chance.

Joe Gelhardt’s dramatic, stoppage-time winner against Norwich City in March only came about because Patrick Bamford was unable to complete the full 90.

Charlie Cresswell, Lewis Bate and Crysencio Summerville have had chances to make their mark too.

Sam Greenwood, meanwhile, has been utilised as something of a false nine by head coach Jesse Marsch in recent weeks.

Leeds United’s Nohan Kenneh facing uncertain future

First-team opportunities for Kenneh, however, remain few and far between.

The 19-year-old, who can play at the back or in central midfield, is yet to make his senior breakthrough. That is despite some seriously impressive performances at U23 level.

Reserve team coach Andrew Taylor even labelled Kenneh ‘outstanding’ after Leeds’ U23s hammered cross-Pennine rivals Manchester United 3-0 in front of nearly 10,000 fans at Elland Road in March.

A cultured and technically-gifted footballer, Kenneh’s reading of the game and passing out from the back has earned him plenty of admirers behind the scenes at Thorpe Arch.

But with his contract expiring in July, The Athletic claims that a decision is yet to be made on the teenager’s future. Leeds, the report says, are ‘weighing up a decision’.

Should he stay, Kenneh’s versatility could certainly come in handy going forward. Particularly if Marsch cannot help drag Leeds out of the Premier League relegation zone.

The futures of Robin Koch, Diego Llorente and Kalvin Phillips, to name but three, will all come into serious doubt if the Yorkshire giants are plunged back into the Championship following two seasons in the big time.

Phillips is out of contract in 2023. And he, like Koch and Llorente, have a World Cup coming up.
