Leeds United’s Under-23’s took on Crystal Palace on Monday.
Leeds United coach Danny Schofield has told LUTV that he was impressed with Mateusz Bogusz’s goal for the Under-23’s on Monday night.
All the focus around Leeds right now is on the first team and their push for promotion to the Premier League, with Saturday’s 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday taking them another step closer.
On Monday though, Leeds’ Under-23’s were in action at Selhurst Park, travelling down to South London to take on their Crystal Palace counterparts.
Striker Ryan Edmondson put Leeds in front in their final league game of the season, before Luke Dreher pulled the Eagles level in the second half.
Polish midfielder Bogusz then restored Leeds’ advantage with just 10 minutes to go, only for Kian Flanagan to rescue a 2-2 draw for Palace late on.
It was another encouraging afternoon for Bogusz, with the 17-year-old continuing to progress following his January move from Ruch Chorzow, where he build up a reputation as a goalscoring midfielder.
After his goal against Palace, coach Schofield hailed his strike, praising him for being very calm on the ball and squaring up the defender before slotting home – encouraging words for Leeds staff and fans.
“Really pleased with the goals,” said Schofield. “I thought Mateusz’s at the end was very calm. We broke quickly and played the ball into Mateusz’s path, and I thought he were very calm. He could have drove and passed the ball, but he stayed on it, fixed the player, the player decided not to come and press Mateusz, and he slotted it coolly into the bottom corner, so I’m really pleased for him,” he added.
