Vincent Kompany has indicated that Burnley will not stand in Connor Roberts’ way as Leeds United look to tie up a deadline day deal for the Premier League right-back.
HITC Football reported a couple of weeks ago that Daniel Farke’s side had expressed an interest in the Wales international, Leeds United a right-back short following Luke Ayling’s move to Middlesbrough.
And, while the Yorkshire giants certainly have left it late, it appears that Connor Roberts is now increasingly likely to be unveiled at Elland Road before the clock strikes midnight tonight.
According to The Athletic, Leeds have now agreed to sign the former Swansea City and Middlesbrough defender on loan. And, after losing his place in the Burnley XI to Vitinho, Kompany will not stand Roberts’ way of more regular action in the east.
Leeds United agree deal for Burnley’s Connor Roberts

“The fact of the matter is there are some players who have not played as much,” Kompany tells the Burnley Express.
“It’s important for us going into the next 16 games to have our next 16 games as the only priority, but I also understand of course that players will want to play. If there’s an opportunity to do that, then that’s not something we’re going to deny them.”
No league starts in three months
Roberts, who joined Burnley in a £2.5 million deal back in 2021, has not started a top-flight game since being sent off against Brentford back in October.
Leeds, HITC had been informed, were also keen on fellow right-back Daiki Hashioka. The Japan stopper joined Luton Town from Belgian outfit Sint-Truiden instead this week, however. West Ham’s Ben Johnson was another on Leeds’ radar.
Burnley, meanwhile, are closing in on £10m Maxime Esteve from Montpellier.
