Leeds United could confirm Adam Forshaw’s new contract in the coming days after making a stunning return to the squad.
As reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, the 30-year-old star has won himself a new contract with Leeds after returning to the XI from a long-term injury. Forshaw sustained a hip injury in September 2019 which kept the midfielder out for over two years.
Forshaw missed most of Leeds’ promotion-winning season as well as their first campaign back in the Premier League in 16 years. However, the former Middlesbrough dynamo returned to action in October against Southampton off the bench.
And since then, the midfielder has become a key part of the Leeds team, with Forshaw starting Leeds’ last nine Premier League matches, with the Liverpool-born player now set to be rewarded with a new contract.
Forshaw being tied down to a new contract will be great news for Leeds and Marcelo Bielsa, who recently revealed how stunned he was by how effortless the midfielder took to playing in the Premier League after two years out.
The Argentine told Leeds Live: “His level of performance is the same to that prior to his injury. Prior to him stopping playing, he was at a very good level and two-years after, he’s been able to play at a very high level in a higher level of competition. That is not common.”
New Forshaw contract is the sensible decision from Leeds
Hailed as ‘remarkable’ by former Leeds defender Tony Dorigo, Forshaw’s return to form has been nothing short of incredible, and the midfielder is more than worthy of a new contract with the Premier League side.
The midfielder has been a key part of the Yorkshire side’s rise from the Championship to the Premier League. And based on Forshaw’s form in recent months after returning from a two-year injury, a new contract is deserved for the 30-year-old.
