Thomas Christiansen has hinted at changes following Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Reading. Here are some systems he could try.

Leeds manager Thomas Christiansen looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Cardiff City and Leeds United at Cardiff City Stadium on September 26, 2017 in Cardiff, Wales.

Following Saturday’s lacklustre 1-0 home defeat at the hands of an underachieving Reading side, fans have called for Thomas Christiansen to change up the system to halt a slide that has seen The Whites slip away from the top two following three consecutive league defeats.

Leeds have played a 4-2-3-1 formation in every Championship game thus far, but after an explosive start to the campaign, the goals are drying up and Christiansen’s tactical flexibility is being called into question. With the former Barcelona striker hinting at a formation change, this begs the question; what systems could he try?

3-4-3

With Wolves’ adaptation of Antonio Conte’s favoured 3-4-3 system working wonders at the summit of the table, Thomas Christiansen may be tempted to trial a similar system, with (when-fit) Vurnon Anita or possibly even Stuart Dallas and Luke Ayling playing as wingbacks, and two of Ezgjan Alioski, Samuel Saiz, Kemar Roofe and Pablo Hernandez flanking Pierre-Michel Lasogga up top.

Leeds 3-5-2

4-1-2-1-2

Target man Lasogga looked isolated up top against Reading and giving the German some support up top could be the answer to Leeds’ woes, with either Jay-Roy Grot or Pawel Cibicki stepping in to lighten the attacking burden placed on the loanee’s shoulders. Samuel Saiz would likely feature ahead of one of Eunan O’Kane or Ronaldo Vieira, who would play in a deeper role.
