The Leeds head coach has been discussing the Italian midfielder’s fitness.
Leeds United boss Uwe Rosler says central midfielder Tommaso Bianchi is getting closer to a return to fitness, according to the club’s official website.
The 26-year-old says the Italian isn’t ready to take part in United’s football sessions but has come a long way in terms of his conditioning.
Bianchi started his Leeds career well last season but his form began to dip halfway through the Championship campaign and he was subsequently dropped. When he was ready to return to the first-team setup, however, the midfielder was ruled out for a lengthy period through injury.
The German told the Leeds site: “Tommaso Bianchi is coming closer as well, he’s not ready to be in our football sessions but, in terms of conditioning, he’s come a long way so that’s good.”
Any good injury news is a boost for Leeds, especially considering the fact the Whites’ squad is – as Rosler himself puts it – thin in places.
In midfield, though, United have looked good of late. Tom Adeyemi has impressed, while Luke Murphy, Lewis Cook and Kalvin Phillips are also in a good frame of mind and creating a healthy level of competition.
Bianchi’s progress towards match fitness, then, is encouraging – but he’ll still have plenty to do once he’s available for selection once more.
