Leeds United are among the clubs who have been linked with Josh Hawkes of Hartlepool United in the summer transfer window.

Paul Heckingbottom, Manager of Leeds United looks on prior to the Sky Bet Championship match between Fulham and Leeds United at Craven Cottage on April 3, 2018 in London, England.

Leeds United head coach Paul Heckingbottom has refused to comment on speculation linking the club with Josh Hawkes of Hartlepool United, as quoted by Leeds Live.

According to The Sunderland Echo, Leeds are among the clubs interested in signing Hartlepool midfielder Hawkes in the summer transfer window.

Sunderland, Middlesbrough and Newcastle United are also reported to be interested in the 19-year-old midfielder.

Leeds head coach Heckingbottom has refused to comment on speculation linking the West Yorkshire outfit with a move for Hawkes this summer.

Heckingbottom told Leeds Live when asked about Hawkes: “He’s not our player, he’s not someone who we’re in a position to talk about, anything like that.

“It would be one for the summer, while reports are going in on players, we’re speaking about individual players.

“Until they’re our player or we’re making a move and there’s news to tell you in that respect, it’s pointless us mentioning it because all that’ll happen is you’ll ask me about a player who I’ve probably never even heard of and I tell you that.

“Then the next person I do comment on you’ll think ‘he must be going for him then.’ So it’s easier not to bother.”

Sensible comments

Heckingbottom is right in refusing to comment on speculation linking Hawkes with a move to Leeds in the summer transfer window.

It would not be wise to comment on a player at another club, and publicly stating interest in him could see his his price increase.

It is smart, though, of Leeds to be keeping tabs on the 19-year-old, who is a very talented and promising young midfielder.

The Whites appear to be planning for the 2018-19 campaign already, and that is certainly something very encouraging.
