Leeds United are reportedly hoping to re-sign Aaron Lennon during the summer.
According to a report from The Sun on Sunday (3/2; page 61), Marcelo Bielsa is making checks on Aaron Lennon ahead of a potential bid to bring the winger back to Leeds in the summer.
The Whites are flying in the Championship. Despite losing comfortably at home to Norwich City on Saturday, Bielsa’s side sit second in the table and are being backed by many to end their top flight exile in the coming months.
And it appears that Bielsa may already be thinking about potential summer targets. The Sun on Sunday (3/2; page 61) reports that Lennon could be offered the chance to make an emotional return to Elland Road when the next window opens 14 years after he swapped Leeds for Tottenham.
The 31-year-old is currently at Burnley, and has made 16 Premier League appearances for Sean Dyche’s side this term, scoring once and providing one assist for the Clarets.
The Sun on Sunday reports that he could potentially miss the rest of the season, but that has not stopped Bielsa doing his homework on the former England international ahead of a potential bid.
It is not a huge surprise that Bielsa hopes to sign another winger. As reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds were denied the chance to sign Daniel James on deadline day as Swansea stopped responding to their messages in the final hours of the January window.
Lennon is at a different stage of his career. But he would arguably be a popular addition with the supporters given his connections with the club, and his incredible amount of top flight experience.
And after such a superb career, Lennon would be forgiven for wanting to make his return to Leeds to help them either get promoted out of the Championship or re-establish themselves at English football’s top table should they go up this year.
