Aapo Halme played well for Leeds United in the Yorkshire derby against Sheffield United on Saturday.

Marcelo Bielsa manager of Leeds United looks on prior to the Sky Bet Championship match between Sheffield United and Leeds United at Bramall Lane on December 01, 2018 in Sheffield, England.

Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa has told Leeds Live that Aapo Halme played well against Sheffield United.

Halme did not start the Yorkshire derby at Bramall Lane in the Championship on Saturday afternoon, but the 20-year-old central defender came on as a substitute after just 21 minutes.

The youngster, who stands at 6ft 5in, replaced the injured Liam Cooper, and Leeds head coach Bielsa was impressed with the performance displayed by the Finland Under-21 international.

Bielsa told Leeds Live about the performance of Halme: “He had a balanced game. He was not impressed by the importance of the game. He played at a good level when he had to play aerial balls and recover the ball.

“Regarding the use of the ball, he had the same inconvenience as the other players in the line of three. We took this game as a possibility to compare with West Bromwich and we had special interest in not making a mistake.”

The match against United was Halme’s second Championship appearance of the season, and the Finnish youngster played well against the Blades and gave a good account of himself.

According to WhoScored, the 20-year-old central defender took one shot, had a pass accuracy of 76.2%, won two headers, and made two tackles, three interceptions and four clearances.

With Cooper injured at the moment, Halme could be set for a extended run in the Leeds first team.
