Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has acknowledged West Bromwich Albion’s late surge last night, describing it as ‘not normal’.
Bielsa’s side edged out the Baggies 1-0 at Elland Road to regain their spot at the summit of the Championship.
It was a nervy final 20 minutes for Leeds – who took the lead through Ezgjan Alioski in the first half – as Slaven Bilic’s side threw the kitchen sink at the hosts in an effort to force an equaliser.
But the Whites – who boast the best defence in the Championship after conceding five times in 10 games – held firm, though Bielsa admits that he was surprised with Albion’s energy in the final quarter.
He told a press conference via Leeds Live: “In the first half we did a little bit better than them and in the second half they were a little better than us. What they produced in the last 20
“minutes was good. It’s not normal to see such production in attack as they did in the last part of the match.”
According to BBC Sport, West Brom had 52 percent possession, but five less shots on target than Leeds, who had nine.
But in terms of clear-cut chances, the hosts might feel as if they have got away with one, though having dominated so many games and ended up with nothing to show for it in recent weeks, the supporters, nor Bielsa, will care one iota.
