Nottingham Forest reportedly interested in Leeds’ Garry Monk.
Leeds United manager Garry Monk
Garry Monk is unsurprisingly a manager in demand after a superb season in charge so far at Leeds United.
He has surpassed expectation and is on course to become the first head coach to last the season under Massimo Cellino, an achievement in itself.
Monk is yet to sign a new deal at Leeds, and this has led to reports suggesting rival Championship teams are interested in him.
One of these, according to The Mirror, is Nottingham Forest, who are not even guaranteed to be in England’s second tier at this stage.
They are at risk of being dragged into the relegation battle, and are currently being managed by caretaker boss Gary Brazil after Philippe Montanier was fired.
At the City Ground, hope is a feeling which is tough to come by, with supporters feeling more and more disenfranchised by Fawaz Al-Hasawi’s tumultuous ownership.
Like Massimo Cellino at Leeds, Al-Hasawi has over seen a revolving door of managers, and they look further away from returning to the top flight than ever.
Yet Monk’s achievements at Leeds should give Forest encouragement.
He has shown that despite unstable ownership and years of chaos before him, it is possible with the right approach and recruitment, to get it right.
Leeds were mid-table also-rans for the entirety of Cellino’s ownership before Monk came along, and he has turned them into promotion chasers, currently fourth in the table.
Monk’s record this season shows that if Forest do get the right boss, it is still possible to get on track, despite the fact Al-Hasawi appears to be going nowhere.
The ‘right boss’ might be out there for Forest, just don’t expect Monk to swap Elland Road for the City Ground.
