Leeds United are sixth in the Championship at the moment.

Speaking to LUTV, Leeds United boss Garry Monk has hailed Pablo Hernandez’s “great ability”.

The Spanish playmaker is nearing a return to fitness and trained today for the first time since suffering an injury over a month ago.

The 31-year-old joined Leeds on a six-month loan and the former Swansea City attacker – who played with and under Monk in South Wales – is arguably the finest technical footballer that the 38-year-old manager has on the books.

He has scored two and set up two in 12 Championship outings but he has oozed class at times throughout the campaign.

And Monk says the Whites players have enjoyed seeing him regain his sharpness.

“Pablo is very well liked within the squad. He’s got great ability and the players have enjoyed seeing his talent, his ability, since he’s come in at the start of the season,” he told LUTV.”

United, who beat Reading 2-0 on Tuesday night, host Brentford at Elland Road on Saturday as Leeds look to consolidate their spot in the playoff positions.

But it could be tough. Hernandez is very unlikely to feature, having only just returned to training, and striker Chris Wood is sidelined with a hamstring problem.
