Leeds United boss Garry Monk has admitted to LUTV that he was disappointed by the manner of Wigan Athletic’s late equaliser on Tuesday night.
The Whites looked on course for a fourth straight home win in the Championship as Chris Wood’s 29th-minute effort separated the sides for so long at Elland Road last night.
But Shaun MacDonald snatched a last-minute equaliser to deny Leeds what would have been the perfect tonic after losing to Derby County on Saturday afternoon.
Set pieces have not been Leeds’ forte this season although a centre-back partnership of Kyle Bartley and Pontus Jansson looked to have improved things for a while.
But Wigan’s equaliser stemmed from a corner and MacDonald prodded home via the crossbar after Monk’s side failed to clear, and the 38-year-old manager stressed that a lack of communication and organisation was the main reason for the goal.
Asked by LUTV whether he was disappointed over the manner of the concession, Monk said: “Yeah. We defended general play really well but in injury time, in a set piece, that organisation and communication has to be there and it wasn’t and it cost the team three points.”
Leeds went into the international break in good form but they’re yet to win either of their two games since the domestic calendar resumed last week.
They go to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday aiming to bounce back from the two disappointments of recent days.
