The Leeds United star could face retrospective action following his stamp on Reece Oxford.

Whites boss Garry Monk spoke to reporters in the aftermath of his side’s defeat to Reading yesterday, and defended Liam Cooper, after the Leeds man stamped on Reece Oxford’s head during the game, as quoted by Sky Sports.

The West Yorkshire outfit returned from their trip to Berkshire empty handed, after their 1-0 loss, and now sit in fifth position in the Championship table, one point behind Jaap Stam’s men.

They are, however, still in a fairly comfortable position, as far as making the play-offs is concerned, with six points separating themselves and seventh placed Sheffield Wednesday.

Yesterday’s defeat certainly didn’t help matters though.

And the post-match press conference was a tricky one for Monk, who had to field questions regarding Cooper’s stamp on Oxford’s head.

The Leeds boss backed his player though, suggesting that he is sure it would have been an accident, as quoted by Sky Sports:

“Look, I haven’t seen it, but I know Liam very very well, he’s 100 per cent not that type of lad. Obviously I haven’t seen it, but I can imagine that it was more of an accident than anything else.”

There is a chance now that the Leeds defender will face retrospective action, if it can be proven that there was genuine intent of course.

And with some tricky games ahead for the Whites, the last thing that Monk needs is a lengthy suspension for one of this players.
