Leeds United manager Garry Monk has been speaking to reporters ahead of his side’s Championship clash against Birmingham City, with his comments published on the Whites’ official Twitter account.

Among the subjects being discussed was the injury blow suffered by young defender Tyler Denton, who will be side-lined for a while after undergoing surgery.

“Tyler Denton has had to have an operation on his knee, which will keep him out for a number of weeks,” Monk said.

The 21-year-old is very much a fringe player for Leeds right now, featuring only three times in the cup competitions this season and being named as an unused substitute in the league on six occasions to date.

While the Leeds youngster has had to wait patiently for his chances to impress, the uncertainty surrounding Charlie Taylor’s future means he may get more opportunities next season and beyond, even if only as back-up to Gaetano Berardi if the Swiss defender continues on the left.

For now though he will be hoping to recover from his latest setback and ensure he is fit and firing for pre-season when, depending on which league Leeds find themselves in, a loan move may be his most likely short-term route to regular first-team football.
