Leeds ace Jansson had missed Sweden’s first match of the international break.
Sweden’s official website have confirmed that Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson has jetted off to Sweden to represent his country in a friendly against Slovakia – after missing Sweden’s first match of the international break.
The 27-year-old had been left out of Sweden’s squad to face Russia in the UEFA Nations League and then Slovakia on Tuesday evening because his wife was due to give birth.
In his absence, Sweden drew 0-0 with Russia in what was a meeting between two of the World Cup’s surprise packages, with both sides reaching the quarter finals of the competition.
But now, Jansson has linked up with Janne Andersson’s 25-man squad to take on Slovakia, replacing 25-year-old strier Mikael Ishak who suffered a thigh strain in training on Friday.
Sweden’s decision to call up Jansson comes as somewhat of a blow to Leeds, who would have been delighted that he was to miss the international break fixtures – and therefore avoid injury.
Jansson has been immense since returning to the starting eleven under Marcelo Bielsa, producing an excellent display and a late equaliser against Brentford last weekend.
Leeds fans will now be hoping that Jansson comes through the friendly match against Slovakia unscathed before Saturday’s clash against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.
