Leeds United goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell was named in Michael O’Neill’s starting XI as Northern Ireland got their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign off to a good start with a 2-0 home win over Estonia.

The Whites ace put in a solid display and, even though he was not kept very busy on the night at Windsor Park, he was alert when needed to be in the second half, coming off his line to deny Henri Anier, and was given a 7 out of 10 by both the Belfast Telegraph and Belfast Live.

Peacock-Farrell has not played for Leeds United since January due to Kiko Casilla’s arrival at Elland Road, but one wouldn’t have thought this was the case following the 22-year-old’s good performance and quick reflexes to keep out Anier’s effort, a great sign for both club and country.

Speaking on Sky Sports Main Event during the post-match analysis on Thursday night [21/03, 9:49pm], retired Northern Ireland international Chris Baird was pleased with Peacock-Farrell’s performance, describing him as a “fantastic” keeper in comments that will be music to the ears of Whites and Wee Country fans alike.

When asked if the stopper impressed him, Baird replied: “He has… when I retired from the international side, he came in after me so I don’t really know him personally, but from the games I’ve watched him at, he’s been fantastic. He’s good with the ball at his feet, he’s a good shot-stopper, and you can see tonight that he comes up with big saves.”

Peacock-Farrell came through the ranks at Leeds and has made 40 senior appearances for the Whites, including 30 this season, 27 of which were in the Championship, and has kept 10 clean sheets this term, according to Transfermarkt.
