Leeds United and Aston Villa battled to a hard fought 1-1 draw on Friday evening at Elland Road.
Leeds held the advantage at half-time before Villa fought back to claim a draw.
Former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan gave his view on the result and performance after the game, speaking to BBC Radio Leeds.
He said: “When you look at he whole game, a draw is about the right result.
“Leeds first half didn’t give Villa too much of a sniff of the ball, but the second half we knew there would be more of a backlash from them.
“On the balance of the whole 90 minutes it was a fair result.”
Pontus Jansson scored an early goal for the Whites from a header to give his side the advantage, as he also did last season against Aston Villa.
Leeds had a goal disallowed in the second half as they sought to extend their lead, much to the frustration of manager Thomas Christiansen.
A few minutes later Aston Villa substitute Henri Lansbury scored an impressive low shot from outside the box to bring the scores level.
Leeds had looked impressive in their previous game, a 2-0 away win at Barnsley, but the clash with Aston Villa was a step up in terms of the quality of opponent, with Steve Bruce’s side winning three consecutive games heading into the Elland Road clash.
Leeds remain in seventh place, and can be leapfrogged by sides playing tomorrow, having missed a chance to temporarily climb into the play-off spots.
