Leeds United could be paired with the Red Devils in the quarter-finals of the League Cup.
Leeds United assistant Pep Clotet has told The Yorkshire Evening Post that a home draw with Manchester United would be his ideal League Cup quarter-final tie.
The Whites booked their spot in the last 16 of the competition on Tuesday by breaking down a resolute Blackburn Rovers side at Elland Road.
Chris Wood, who now has five goals from his last seven games in all competitions, was the hero as his late tap-in proved enough for Garry Monk’s side.
There is now a strong chance for Leeds to be paired with a Premier League side, with Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal advancing into the quarter-finals last night, while the likes of Tottenham, West Ham and Manchester City can do so tonight.
Another team looking to progress into the quarters is Jose Mourinho’s side, who visit Northampton Town this evening, and Clotet would like to be paired with the Red Devils in the next phase of the competition.
“Maybe I would like to see here in Elland Road, a game of Leeds and Manchester United,” Clotet said to The Yorkshire Evening Post.
“But I think anyone we draw now is going to be difficult, like it was tonight. Whoever we draw, we have to do our best.”
Both sides last met five years ago in this competition, when Sir Alex Ferguson’s United left Elland Road with a 3-0 win, but how Leeds fans would love another shot at them.
Clotet and Monk would both also like a clash with Swansea, but given that they host Manchester City – who have won all five Premier League games under Pep Guardiola so far – the former Swans duo won’t be holding their breath.
