Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion were reportedly amongst the clubs to scout Jake Hastie.
Jake Hastie has suggested that he hopes to have signed a new contract with Motherwell within the next two weeks, in comments reported by the Evening Times, in news that may disappoint the likes of Leeds, West Brom and Sunderland.
The 19-year-old has enjoyed a stunning spell in the Well first-team. Since returning from his loan at Alloa, Hastie has scored five goals in six games, breaking the deadlock in his last three appearances.
The Daily Record recently reported that Leeds, West Brom and Sunderland were amongst the clubs to send scouts to watch Hastie with his contract at Fir Park expiring at the end of the campaign.
And it appeared that his future may well be up in the air, with Stephen Robinson suggesting that they have offered him the best deal possible but admitting that it may not be enough to convince him to stay (via Evening Times).
But Hastie has seemingly quashed talk of a move to one of the Championship high-flyers or the Black Cats by insisting that he soon hopes to have his future resolved and a new deal signed.
“My agent is still in talks, so hopefully [I’ll sign] in the next couple of weeks,” Hastie said, as reported by the Evening Times. “I definitely want to stay here. I’m playing football and that’s the main thing.
“I’m still only 19 and I’ve still got a lot to learn about the game, and this is the best place to do it. It can be a bit frustrating but I’m just letting my agent deal with it. I know that some players have gone down south young and it hasn’t worked out, so being here just now is the best place for me.”
Of course, Hastie signing a new contract may not put one of the reportedly interested sides off making a bid in the summer. The likes of Leeds and the Baggies have not been afraid to put faith in their young players this season, and perhaps they may be tempted to still try and convince Hastie join their ranks.
