Leeds and Tottenham bosses have played down transfer ambitions.

In a few weeks time the transfer window will be open, and two managers have recently sought to play down expectation.
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino told Football London that the club must trim the squad in order to bring players in, dampening chances of a January spending spree.
Pochettino’s mentor, Marcelo Bielsa is managing Leeds at the top of the Championship. He told The Telegraph that he does not intend on spending big in the transfer window.
Their statements are smart for two reasons, heading into a crucial few weeks.
Bielsa and Pochettino’s comments infuse faith into their current squad players, showing their manager has belief in them to achieve their club’s ambitions.
Heading into a crucial run of fixtures, Leeds and Tottenham need to really kick on.

Most importantly, Bielsa and Pochettino’s comments will be welcomely received by their club’s chairmen.
Getting January deals done can be harder than in the summer.
If Leeds and Tottenham do both intend to do deals, their cause won’t be helped by the managers coming out and publicly expressing a desire to spend, showing desperation, and causing selling clubs to hike their prices up.
Right now, a few weeks away from January, the two managers have made the right comments.
There’s still room for manouevre, and the coaches have helped their current players, while also protecting the club from being drawn into over-paying, if there are players who they have their eye on.
