Sky Sports claim Blackburn Rovers will block any potential January sale of striker Ben Brereton-Diaz. The club’s owners are keen to keep him to aid the club’s promotion push, with Leeds and Newcastle among those linked.
Brereton-Diaz, 22, has taken his career to a whole new level over the past 18 months. Switching his allegiance to Chile, the striker has reached new bounds – becoming a cult hero with the South American country.
He has scored three goals in nine caps for Chile – while his form at club level has dramatically improved this season. Last term, he scored seven goals. This time around, he already has 20 goals in 26 appearances.
Still only 22, interest in the striker is rife – though Blackburn sit second in the Championship. Sky Sports report that the Venky’s will not sell him this month. TeamTalk report Leeds and West Ham want the £30million star.
Leeds, Newcastle blow: Brereton-Diaz set to stay at Blackburn
Ultimately for the player himself, he is on fire. He is at the top of his game and enjoying life at Ewood Park – and could even fire Tony Mowbray’s side in the Premier League. Leeds and Newcastle could really do with him.
But he is unproven in the Premier League and this month, the best place for him is to remain at Blackburn. To continue scoring goals and shining in blue and white. But if promotion does not come about, then he could go.
Blackburn fans would surely be happy if he waits until the summer before leaving the club – giving every chance to get his side promoted. Leeds and Newcastle will prove tempting for the Chile ace, though.
