Leeds United and Brighton and Hove Albion have been linked with Harry Cochrane of Heart of Midlothian in the summer transfer window.
Cochrane is enjoying a breakthrough season at Hearts and is one of the best young players in the Scottish Premiership.
The 16-year-old midfielder has scored one goal and provided one assist in 17 Scottish Premiership appearances for the Jambos so far this season, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.
Leeds’s and Brighton’s reported interest in Cochrane makes sense, especially as a long-term prospect, but it seems that the Championship club and the Premier League outfit will not be able to secure the services of the Scotland Under-17 international midfielder – not only in the summer transfer window, but for a few more years.
That’s because Hearts are about to hand the youngster a new contract, with manager Craig Levein stating that he would like the midfielder to remain at the Scottish Premiership for a few more years at least.
Levein told The Scottish Sun: “There will be more news shortly on Harry’s contract I am sure. We want to keep a hold of our best young players. I’d like to get two of three more seasons out of Harry before he does anything else.”
