Leeds United youngster Alfie McCalmont was Northern Ireland’s under-19 side’s hero in their latest game.
Alfie McCalmont took to Twitter to express his delight after the Leeds youngster came off the bench to score the winning goal in Northern Ireland’s under-19 side’s victory over Kazakhstan on Tuesday.
Northern Ireland missed out on the chance to progress to the next stage of qualifying on goal difference despite edging a five-goal thriller in Portadown.
The hosts fell behind twice during the contest, but managed to turn the game around, with the Leeds starlet bagging the decisive goal with three minutes remaining as he drilled an excellent first-time finish into the bottom corner.
It may have been a disappointing day for Northern Ireland, but McCalmont could not hide his pride on social media after the game, sending out a three-word message to describe his feelings.

McCalmont certainly appears to be making a major name for himself with his performances for Leeds’ youth sides and for his country.
It is probably too soon to be expecting the 18-year-old to move himself right onto Marcelo Bielsa’s radar in the near future. But he is undoubtedly developing extremely well, and it may perhaps not be long before he is close to being rated as highly as fellow starlet Jack Clarke.
