Leeds United’s Adam Forshaw grew up a boyhood Liverpool supporter but he came through the ranks at Everton as a youngster.
Leeds United’s Adam Forshaw has stated that he had to keep ‘quiet’ when he was coming through at Everton because he was a season-ticket holder at Liverpool, as it was a ‘running joke’ with the coaches at the time.
Midfielder Forshaw, who was born in Liverpool, came through the ranks at Goodison Park before moving down the football pyramid, as he now finds himself playing for Leeds in the Championship.
Whilst Forshaw did make it into the senior team at Everton when David Moyes was in charge, it didn’t last long, as he soon found himself moving on.
Speaking to Talking Shutt, Forshaw shared what it was like playing for Everton, making his debut, and along the way still having a season ticket in the Kop.
“My whole family are Reds,” Forshaw told Talking Shutt. “By the time I was seven I was a season ticket holder with me dad and two brothers in the Kop at Anfield.
“So, yes, kept that quiet for a few years and it was just a running joke with the coaches when I was at Everton. The closer I got to the first-team, I did keep it quiet.
“I made my debut in the Europa League. I remember it was freezing on the night and we were through and it was the last game of the group stages. Luckily I made my debut – I made two appearances for the first-team and I was on the bench a lot and that was it.”
Forshaw will be hoping that he can make a return to the Premier League this season, as Leeds are pushing to earn promotion to the promised land.
They are currently sitting outside of the automatic places, as Leeds will be hoping to end their 15-year absence from England’s top-flight.
In the meantime, Liverpool are also looking to become English League champions for the first time in 30 years, as it is pretty likely that both outcomes can occur this season.
