Leeds United’s Adam Forshaw is out injured with an ankle problem.
Adam Forshaw has revealed to LUTV that he still travels with the Leeds United squad in spite of his injury, at the request of head coach Marcelo Bielsa.
Leeds were rocked earlier this month by the news that the Liverpudlian midfielder had damaged ankle ligaments before the Whites’ Championship opener with Stoke City.
Forshaw, a £4.5 million [Daily Mail] signing from Middlesbrough in January, was originally ruled out for six weeks and is now around a month away from a return.
But the 26-year-old is still heavily involved with the Whites’ behind-the-scenes preparations after Bielsa – whose side have won all three of their games this season, scoring nine goals along the way – asked him to remain apart of things, despite his injury.
He told LUTV: “I spoke to the manager when I got injured. I was disappointed and he said that it’s up to me and he’d like me to travel with the team, to the away games too for me to feel involved still.
“It keeps my morale high and it’s been an absolute joy to watch the team in the first few games. It’s entertainment. I’m enjoying being part of it and travelling back on the bus with the lads when they’re buzzing after a win. I’m still close to the team.”
Forshaw could struggle to get back into the first XI when he does return.
Kalvin Phillips has established himself as a key anchorman for Leeds so far this season, while he won’t be displacing Mateusz Klich – who has opened the scoring in both of United’s league games – if the Poland international remains in this form.
However, the former Middlesbrough and Brentford man is a brilliant midfielder and he will certainly apply plenty of pressure when he returns.
