Leeds ace says he aims to win promotion before he retires.
Leeds United attacker Pablo Hernandez has told Spanish newspaper AS that he wants to retire in his homeland.
Hernandez hopes this season to win promotion and would like to sign a contract extension.
At 33-years-old he is already planning his retirement and says he wants to end his playing career where he began, at second tier side Castellon.
Hernandez said: “With Leeds I hope to promote and return to play in the Premier; then I want to retire playing in Castellón.
“With 33 years old, it is logical that I should consider things. But I enjoy the moment and I feel that I have years of playing left.
“I have a contract until 2020 and if we go up we extend one more … But you see the 19-year-olds and you see yourself reflected in them, the future is theirs.”
It’s clear that Leeds’ window for success with Hernandez is a narrow one.
The former Valencia star is in terrific form, this season he has seven goals already, his joint best at Leeds so far, and 10 assists, his most prolific.
He evidently realises he cannot sustain this form for too much longer, and the dream of playing in the Premier League is spurring him on.
If the Whites do not make it this season, unthinkable at present, then Hernandez may have to re-adjust his own plans.
