Rasmus Kristensen’s disappointing season continues with Leeds United’s AS Roma loanee handed a one-star rating after a enduring shaky evening during Denmark’s 2-0 defeat to Northern Ireland.

If his inclusion in Kasper Hjulmand’s starting XI came as a surprise, then it’s fair to say the struggles that followed did not. At least, not to the Leeds United supporters who watched Rasmus Kristensen stumble his way through a highly-underwhelming season at Elland Road, only to defy gravity and fail upwards with his subsequent loan move to Serie A giants Roma.

Kristensen very nearly gifted Northern Ireland a lead inside just eight minutes, livewire forward Dion Charles racing onto his dismal back pass being denied by the woodwork.

Danish publication Tipsbladet had very few positive things to say about the defender’s performance at full-time either, Kristensen given a rating of just one out of six.

Struggles go on for Leeds United’s Rasmus Kristensen

“He got a chance in (Kasper) Hjulmand’s starting lineup at the expense of Joakim Maehle,” Tipsbladet write. “But (Kristensen) didn’t take it.

“A very nervous start to the match was crowned by what almost ended up being an assist for the Northern Ireland striker who hit the inside of the post. It was not Rasmus Nissen’s night.”

In truth, it hasn’t really been his season.

Kristensen, so impressive at Red Bull Salzburg before his £10 million move to Leeds, has picked up few superlatives during his time at Roma either, starting only one of the Gialorrosi’s last six Serie A games after losing his place in Jose Mourinho’s XI.

The Elland Road misfit was even included in Tuttomercatoweb’s Flop of the Week team after Roma lost 1-0 to Inter Milan at the end of October.

Out of the Roma team

“It sounds like empty talk when I say now that we were fully prepared and ready to give it a shot. Especially us, who don’t play that much and got the chance tonight,” Kristensen sighs after a Denmark side shorn of Rasmus Hojlund and Christian Eriksen collapsed at Windsor Park (DR).

“In the end, it was not good enough at all.”
