Glasgow Rangers defender Lee Wallace made his first appearance for the Ibrox side since August.

Lee Wallace’s wife Steph has taken to Twitter after the left-back was handed only his second appearance of the season in Rangers’ win on Sunday.

Many of the Ibrox faithful had assumed that Wallace’s Rangers career is virtually over with his contract expiring in the summer – as shown by Transfermarkt.

Heading into the trip to St Johnstone, the 31-year-old had featured once since the Scottish Cup semi-final last season. And that appearance saw him only brought on for the final moments of their 3-3 draw with Motherwell.

But when Borna Barisic went down injured during the first-half at McDiarmid Park, there was a huge roar from the visiting Gers fans when Steven Gerrard called for Wallace to get ready to come on.

However, that was nothing compared to the ovation that the former club captain received when he ran onto the pitch for the first time since August.

And after the 2-1 win that has taken Rangers to within one point of the table’s summit heading into the Boxing Day clash with Hibernian and the Old Firm game a few days later, Steph Wallace reaffirmed just how much her husband loves the Gers after what was clearly an emotional moment for their family.
