The Daily Mail has reported that Rangers defender Lee Wallace is set to visit a specialist in a move that could single-handedly end his seven-year stay at Ibrox.
The 30-year-old left-back, who remains the club captain, was suspended last month for a dressing room fracas with former boss Graeme Murty after the 4-0 loss to Celtic. Kenny Miller was given the same punishment.
With his future already in doubt, the Mail report that he has travelled down south to England in order to visit a specialist and get top-quality advice on whether he needs another operation to finally solve his groin problems.
Wallace is in danger of finding himself without a club this summer following his suspension, with only a year left on his contract at Ibrox. But an operation could prevent the Gers from selling him on, with the defender required to be fit enough to pass a medical.
The former Hearts defender is awaiting to hear what action will be taken against him following his suspension, as is Miller. But whether he leaves or remains, he must be fit to pass a medical at a new club.
Steven Gerrard’s new side are unlikely to release the left-footed defender from his contract despite entering the last year, because Wallace would be due a hefty amount of compensation.
So, Rangers must wait and see if Wallace must go under the knife once again. If he does, he could become Rangers’ new forgotten man as he will be unable to join a new side – whether the club take action on his suspension or not.
