Lee Wallace has identified the two main weaknesses Rangers must work on if they are to improve this season, in an interview with the club’s official website.

The Gers captain played the full 90 minutes on Saturday as Hamilton ground out a draw and spoiled Rangers’ welcome back party.

“We are of course aware that teams know our perceived weakness and it could be defending or defending counter attacks or set plays,” said Wallace.

“We are working consciously and working very hard at nullifying that and it is a bitter disappointment that we have lost that type of goal in that manner.”

Mark Warburton’s men have become accustomed to dominating their league opponents in recent years, on their journey back to the top flight, but they are in for a rude awakening this season.

Rangers’ possession-based game and commitment to attack does leave them open to getting hurt on the counter and a lack of concentration has led to several costly set-piece errors under Warburton’s reign.

Neither of these were to blame for the Accies’ opener at Ibrox however, with the Gers’ defence well positioned until Wallace and Nico Kranjcar were sold a dummy far too easily by Ali Crawford, who then finished expertly.

There were plenty of positives to take from the game but the squad, and fans alike, will now be truly aware of the task that faces them if they are to topple Celtic this season.
