Leeds United are currently sitting outside of the automatic places in the Championship
Lee Sharpe has honestly stated that he would ‘hate to see’ Leeds United drop into the play-off places at the end of the season as they aim for promotion to the Premier League.
The former Manchester United man admitted that Marcelo Bielsa’s side have been ‘faltering’ in recent weeks as they currently sit outside of Championship’s top two following recent results.
The Whites weren’t in action over the weekend as their promotion rivals, Norwich City and Sheffield United, took advantage and leapfrogged them in the table which dropped them into third place.
Speaking to the Alan Brazil Show on talkSPORT on 19/02/2019, Sharpe seemed hesitant to say that Leeds could finish in the top two, but seemed to admit that he would like to see them come up.
“I would like to say Leeds [would go up automatically],” Sharpe told talkSPORT. “But with them faltering, I would like to say, Leeds. I would hate to see that Leeds drop into the playoffs and have to battle a couple more games to get themselves up.”
Since the turn of the year, Bielsa’s side have recorded three wins in the league and they will be looking to be marching on to the promised land ahead of these final few months of the campaign.
During their last encounter, they recorded a valuable and much-needed win against Swansea City and they will be looking to continue in their winning ways when they host relegation-threatened Bolton on Saturday.
It must be noted that they do have a game in hand on their rivals and if they continue picking up three points then they will reclaim top spot once again.
It has been over a decade since Leeds tasted top-flight football as this has been the closest they have ever come to reaching their historical high heights.
