Ex-Gers star Lee McCulloch has praised the Glasgow Rangers directors for backing former Ibrox managers Mark Warburton and Pedro Caixinha.

Lee McCulloch has praised the Rangers directors in The Glasgow Evening Times for backing the Ibrox managers over the past few seasons.

The former Rangers star, who was on the books of the Ibrox club from 2007 until 2015, has praised the Gers’ bosses for signing the players that recent managers such as Mark Warburton and Pedro Caixinha have wanted.

McCulloch wrote in The Glasgow Evening Times: “The one thing you can’t say about the directors is that they don’t back their manager.

“Mark Warburton was allowed to rebuild the squad and then Pedro Caixinha was given millions to spend last summer.

“They have backed their managers with money but those appointments and those signings have backfired on them.”

Fair point?

Rangers chairman Dave King and the club’s bosses should have done better than appointing Pedro Caixinha, but McCulloch’s point about them backing the managers is fair.

Both Warburton and Caixinha were allowed to make the signings that they wanted, and current boss Graeme Murty was also allowed to bring in the players that he wanted in the January transfer window.

What is important for Rangers going forward is appointing the right manager for the long term, be it Murty or someone else.

Rangers are second in the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 65 points from 34 matches, 10 points behind leaders and Old Firm rivals Celtic.

Aberdeen and Hibernian are currently third and fourth respectively with 65 points and 62 points respectively.
