Lee McCulloch shares prediction about Rangers-bound Jake Hastie

Rangers are reportedly set to bring Jake Hastie to Ibrox.

Former Rangers captain Lee McCulloch has told the Glasgow Evening Times that he’s predicting a great Ibrox career for imminent signing Jake Hastie.

The Gers have already brought in one winger on a pre-contract agreement by snapping up Jordan Jones from Kilmarnock – but another is on the way.

Rangers have been pursuing Motherwell winger Hastie recently, and whilst the move looked to be falling apart last month, it has now been resurrected.

STV report that Hastie will now complete a move to Rangers this week, penning a pre-contract agreement to join the Gers when his deal at Fir Park ends this summer.

Hastie, 20, has excelled for Motherwell since returning from a loan at Alloa Athletic in January, smashing seven goals in 14 games for the club.

Hastie’s pace and power has dazzled many, and whilst he’s raw, the left-footed winger looks to have huge potential to become an absolute star at Ibrox.

Now, ex-Rangers captain McCulloch has praised the deal, predicting that Hastie will prove to be a ‘great bit of business’ years down the line.

McCulloch thinks Steven Gerrard will be expecting Hastie to make an impact next season even if he’s one for the future, and thinks it’s a ‘cracking deal’ to get Hastie for modest compensation.

“Rangers signing Jake Hastie is not a gamble. It is a bit of a no-brainer to be honest and he will go on to be a great bit of business for them in the coming years,” said McCulloch. “When you sign a 20-year-old on a long-term deal, of course you are thinking a wee bit down the line in terms of really getting the best out of him and Jake reaching his full potential in the game. But I am sure Steven Gerrard will be expecting him to come in and make an impact for Rangers next season. If he is part of the squad, he is there to play and contribute to a team that will be looking to challenge for the title.”

“He will prove to be a really good signing and even if they have to pay a few hundred grand, it should be well worth it. It is a cracking deal,” he added.
