Former Ibrox star Lee McCulloch has told The Scottish Sun that Southampton midfielder Steven Davis would be a good signing for Rangers in the January transfer window.

Rangers are interested in signing Davis from Premier League club Southampton in January, according to The Daily Mail.

It has also been reported that the 33-year-old midfielder – who was on the books of Rangers from 2008 until 2012 – is open to moving to Steven Gerrard’s team next month.

Former Rangers captain McCulloch believes that the Northern Ireland international midfielder will be a good signing for Rangers.

McCulloch told The Scottish Sun about Davis: “There’s no doubt he could still do a job at Rangers. He’s been at Ibrox before, he’s captained the club and he knows what it’s all about.

“He can play several positions and he’s a fantastic player with great experience. It’s a no-brainer signing.”

Short-term signing

Davis is a good midfielder who can do a good job for Rangers, but he must be seen as a short-term signing.

Signing the former Aston Villa and Fulham midfielder on loan for the second half of the season will be a good move from Rangers, but the Gers should not look at having him at Ibrox beyond next summer as he is past his prime and is 33 years of age now.
