Former Ibrox captain Lee McCulloch has told Sky Sports that Steven Davis will be a good signing for Rangers.

Rangers are on the verge of signing Davis from Southampton in the January transfer window, according to The Scottish Sun.

It has been reported that the 34-year-old midfielder has agreed on an initial 18-month contract with the Gers.

The Northern Ireland international will join Rangers on a free transfer after leaving Southampton and will earn £12,000 per week as salary at the Gers, according to The Scottish Sun.

McCulloch, who played for Rangers from 2007 until 2015 and was a teammate of Davis at the Gers, believes that the Southampton midfielder will be a good signing for Steven Gerrard’s team.

McCulloch told Sky Sports about Davis: “I’ve played with Steven Davis. He’s captained the club before, he’s won trophies with the club before. He’s a fantastic all-round midfielder.

“He can score and create goals, he’s been playing in the Premier League, he’s got over 100 caps for his country and he’s a really level-headed guy who the young ones in the dressing room can learn from. So it would be another fantastic signing on top of Jermain Defoe.”

Good signing for Rangers

Davis played for Rangers from 2008 until 2012 and knows the Glasgow giants inside out.

Although there will be some concerns over his age, the 34-year-old will still be able to good job at Rangers if he is managed properly in terms of game time.
