Steven Gerrard’s Glasgow Rangers reportedly want Liverpool’s Ovie Ejaria at Ibrox.

Former Ibrox star Lee McCulloch has suggested in The Glasgow Evening Times that Rangers fans should not judge reported Ibrox target Ovie Ejaria based on his performances for Sunderland.

Rangers are close to signing Ejaria on a season-long loan deal from Liverpool n the summer transfer window, according to Sky Sports.

The 20-year-old midfielder spent the second half of the past campaign on loan at Sunderland, having joined the Black Cats in the January transfer window.

During his loan spell at the Stadium of Light, the youngster scored one goal in nine Championship starts, as Sunderland got relegated to League One.

Former Rangers captain McCulloch has suggested that Ibrox fans should not judge Ejaria based on his performances for Sunderland and should be optimistic about him.

McCulloch wrote in The Glasgow Evening Times: “I don’t think you can judge the lad on what happened at Sunderland last season, because it was a hard place to play football with everything that was going on at the club.

“They were fighting relegation and scrapping for their lives, so it would be unfair to judge him being pitched into that side.

“He seems to have a pretty good CV overall, and hopefully he can come in and hit the ground running.”

Promising midielder

Ejaria is a very talented and promising young midfielder who has a bright future ahead of him.

The England Under-21 international has made a handful of appearances for the Liverpool first team, and he would be a good signing for Rangers.

New Rangers manager Gerrard would know about him Ejaria, and Ibrox fans should have faith in the Liverpool legend’s decision.
