Celtic are 13 points clear of Old Firm rivals Rangers in the Scottish Premiership table.

Former Rangers player Lee McCulloch has hit out at Celtic’s Scott Brown for his actions during his side’s 2-1 Old Firm win over the weekend.

McCulloch also claimed that the hotly-contested encounter at Parkhead, which had a number of off-the-ball incidents, will only result in the final encounter between the Glasgow duo next month being ‘very fiery’.

Brown was elbowed by Alfredo Morelos in the first-half and he was sent off for his actions. When Celtic scored the winning goal, Ryan Kent seemingly hit out at Brown on the halfway line. After the match, Andy Halliday confronted his midfield counterpart for celebrating in front of the away supporters.

The actions of Celtic’s senior man hasn’t gone down well with McCulloch who has reminded the player that he is responsible for what he does on the pitch.

“I don’t think you can really defend Andy Halliday in all of this,” McCulloch told the Evening Times. “f the police give out that advice, then Andy doesn’t need to go over and pour petrol on the situation rather than letting people calm it down.

“I am sure Scott Brown will be delighted with all the attention that he has got but he has got to reflect and realise that he shouldn’t be doing that as captain of Celtic. He has been a very successful skipper, won loads of trophies and been Player of the Year so, in my opinion, he should be rising above it.

“I can see the fourth game being very fiery after the season we have had. It will be a real battle and Rangers will be desperate to win it.”

After the drama of the weekend, the Scottish Premiership returns to action on Wednesday night, with a number of big games on show.

Steven Gerrard’s side will host Hearts, while Celtic will travel to St Mirren knowing that they can wrap up the Scottish Premiership title at the weekend if they win their matches and other results go their way.

At the turn of the year, not many would have expected the title race to have been over so early because Rangers were level on points with their neighbours, albeit they did have a game in hand.
