Glasgow Rangers fans are expecting to see some new faces arrive at Ibrox this month.

Gers legend Lee McCulloch sat down for an exclusive interview with the Daily Record, and delivered his verdict on what his former club need to do in the transfer market this month, in order for them to return to past glories.

Rangers currently sit in third position in the Scottish Premiership table, 11 points adrift of league leaders and bitter rivals Celtic, although Graeme Murty deserves a lot of credit for the manner in which he has stabilised the club following their turbulent spell under his predecessor Pedro Caixinha.

The problem for the Gers boss is that he won’t have too much money to spend this month, so he will have to be thrifty in his player recruitment.

McCulloch, who made 296 appearances for the Glasgow giants, explained how Murty should go about bringing established homegrown stars to Ibrox this month.

The 39-year-old told the Daily Record:

“Looking back, Walter had clearly decided he had to bring a Scottish spine back to the club. He wanted to surround himself with players who knew what it meant to wear the jersey. The core of the group were Scottish boys, many of whom has played together for the national side. Walter knew he could depend on us to give everything to the cause and that’s exactly what Graeme Murty will be looking for right now.”

Whilst a sustained challenge for the league title this season might be outside of Rangers’ grasp, Murty should be looking to build a squad capable of challenging Celtic next season, and what better time to start than right now.

And the 43-year-old would be wise to heed McCulloch’s advice.
