Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers signed Ryan Kent on Sunday.

Lee McCulloch has told The Glasgow Evening Times that Rangers have signed an “exciting young player” in the form of Ryan Kent.

The 21-year-old winger joined Rangers on a season-long loan from Liverpool on Sunday.

In doing so, Kent became Steven Gerrard’s 10th signing of what has been an excellent summer on the transfer front so far.

This is the England Under-20 international’s fifth loan move away from the Merseyside outfit in recent years.

Kent endured a tough six-month stint at Bristol City last time around but, given his experience of temporary transfers, Rangers legend McCulloch says this doesn’t represent a risk.

He told The Glasgow Evening Times: “The big concern I have with loans, and I was the same as a manager, is when it is a first time loan for a player. That is always a gamble.

“That isn’t a worry for Kent though because he has already been at Coventry, Barnsley, Freiburg and Bristol City over the last few years.

“He has gained a bit of experience, he will have good knowledge of the game and it won’t faze him coming up and playing for Rangers and working with Steven Gerrard. If he was a first-time loan, I would have said he was a bit of a gamble.

“It is a relatively low-risk, low cost deal for Rangers and the manager has got another exciting young player that can hopefully catch the eye at Ibrox.”

It’s a very good point by McCulloch. If this was Kent’s first loan move away from Rangers then you could argue it would’ve been a much bigger gamble, but the youngster is probably more accustomed to loan stints at this point and therefore he may not be daunted by joining Rangers.

However, this will be by far the biggest club that he will be playing regularly for, so time will tell whether he is equal to the pressure and expectation of performing for the Ibrox side.
