Jordan Jones could face future team Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers tomorrow.
Speaking to The Glasgow Evening Times, Lee McCulloch has described Jordan Jones as a ‘bit naive’ in the way he celebrated signing for Rangers.
The Northern Ireland winger signed a pre-contract agreement with Rangers earlier this month, and will move to Ibrox in the summer.
Visibly excited, Jones, a lifelong Gers fan, announced the news on Twitter and soon received a barrage of criticism from Kilmarnock fans for using a ‘WATP’ hashtag.
The 24-year-old will remain at Rugby Park for the next five months and plenty of fans thought it was a tad disrespectful toward Killie.
Jones could come up against Rangers tomorrow evening, but McCulloch, who played with the winger, is confident that his former team-mate will go about the occasion in a professional manner, if manager Steve Clarke picks him.
He told The Glasgow Evening Times: “There was a lot of talk about a tweet that Jordan Jones put out when he signed his pre-contract with Rangers and a lot of people weren’t happy with him.
“It was maybe a bit naïve. You have to remember he is still young and everyone makes mistakes.
“I know Jordan well and I know his mentality. He always bounces back from setbacks, regardless of what they are, and I am confident he will be right on his game when Rangers face Kilmarnock tomorrow night.”
Jones is one of four January signings by Rangers boss Steven Gerrard, who brought in Jermain Defoe and Steven Davis, while Glen Kamara will also join up this summer after he too signed a pre-contract.
The prospect of him facing Gerrard’s side at Rugby Park is a very interesting one indeed. Is he in the right frame of mind to potentially dent his future club’s Premiership title hopes? Time will tell.
