Former Ibrox captain Lee McCulloch has compared Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos to Barcelona superstar Luis Suarez in The Glasgow Evening Times.

McCulloch, who was on the books of Rangers from 2007 until 2015, believes that Morelos’s personalty is similar to that of 31-year-old Barcelona star Suarez, who worked with current Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool.

“He reminds me a lot – not in terms of ability, but in terms of his personality – of Luis Suarez,” McCulloch wrote about Morelos in The Glasgow Evening Times.

“The Barcelona and Uruguay striker went through a phase where he got into a lot of trouble as a result of his ill-discipline. He obviously had to screw the nut a bit and not get involved in all of the nonsense that he was doing before.

“But if you take away that hunger and desire then you lose a lot of what makes him a truly great player. The same thing applies to Alfredo for me.”

Alfredo Morelos of Rangers heads at goal during the Scottish Ladbrokes Premiership match between Rangers and Aberdeen at Ibrox Stadium on December 5, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Disciplinary issues

Morelos is one of the best strikers in the Scottish Premiership and is a key figure in Steven Gerrard’s Rangers team.

However, the 22-year-old does need to work on his disciplinary issues, as he is getting far too many yellow and red cards than he should.

The Colombia international striker was sent off against Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership last week – his eighth red card of the season.

The striker can be a much better player if he learns to keep his cool and becomes more mature in terms of his temperament.

Morelos has scored nine goals in in the Scottish Premiership, two in the Europa League and four in the Scottish League Cup, according to WhoScored.
