Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers have a flawed gem in Alfredo Morelos.
Lee McCulloch has written in The Glasgow Evening Times that Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos needs to be a lot more professional.
Morelos escaped yet another retrospective ban on Tuesday when he was cleared of any wrongdoing after a physical confrontation with Kilmarnock’s Kirk Broadfoot on Saturday.
The fiery Colombian hitman has received four red cards this season and it’s clear that he is vulnerable to opposition players winding him up.
The 22-year-old has netted 27 goals across all competitions for Steven Gerrard’s side this season, and could well hit the 30-goal barrier.
That would be a phenomenal achievement for a player signed for only £1.2 million in 2017 [The Scottish Sun].
But Rangers legend McCulloch feels that his temper could cost him the prospect of moving to the next level in his career.
McCulloch told The Glasgow Evening Times: “It’s about professionalism. I watched all of Rangers games in Europe this season and defenders had worked out that in Morelos Rangers had a player who could really hurt them.
“So, they played on his weakness, that quick temper, and it worked. He is 22 and will learn, but if this lad is going to get to the top, and he has every chance, he’s got to learn to ignore guys like Kirk and just get on with the football.
“It’s not easy but, and I’ll use the word again, it’s professional. This is the only chink in his armour because this lad has become a top class striker.”
McCulloch is right. Morelos is an absolute gem, but a flawed one and it might even affect his value.
Despite his goalscoring, a lot of clubs will be hesitant about paying top dollar on the basis that he’s a bit, well, nuts at times. If he can curb it, it’s beneficial to all parties.
