Steven Gerrard will be hoping to lift some silverware with Rangers this season.

Lee McCulloch has backed the Rangers dressing room to deal with the possibility that the team may play 62 games over the season, which would mean a chance of lifting some silverware.

Former Gers man McCulloch claimed that the likes of Allan McGregor and Steven Davis will ensure ‘the approach’ from the players will be ‘spot on’ and he doesn’t see it being ‘a problem’.

At this moment in time, Steven Gerrard’s side have the chance of lifting the Scottish Cup as they have to see off Aberdeen in the quarter-final replay where Celtic will be awaiting them in the semi-finals.

McCulloch spoke about playing a high volume matches over the course of the season as he believes today’s players can cope better because they are not coming ‘thick and fast’ like they were over 10 years ago.

“If Rangers do get to 62 [games for the season], that is a good sign because it means they will have a shot at the Scottish Cup and a bit of silverware this season,” McCulloch told the Evening Times.

“That number of games can be managed because they won’t be coming as thick and fast as they were during our season more than a decade ago now.

“I don’t see it being a problem as long as those things are right in the dressing room and when you have the likes of Allan McGregor and Steven Davis in there, I know the approach will be spot on during these final few weeks of the season.”

In terms of the Scottish Premiership title race, Rangers are eight-points behind Celtic and it is looking highly likely that their rivals will walk away with eight-in-a-row.

Gerrard, who is in his debut season as manager, will be looking to mark it with some silverware and help the Ibrox club stop their Old Firm neighbours from winning the treble-treble.

Striker Alfredo Morelos will be key to those plans as he has not stopped scoring this season, but a number of sending offs, especially against Aberdeen, has proven to be costly for the team.

The Gers will now be focusing their attention on their Friday night Premiership clash against Hibernian where they can close the gap on Neil Lennon’s men to five points before they host Aberdeen on Saturday afternoon.
